The Disney magic is coming to Abu Dhabi: Here’s what we know

The magic of Disney is coming to life in Abu Dhabi, promising a world of wonder, imagination, and unforgettable memories. Disneyland Abu Dhabi will combine cutting-edge technology with stunning design to bring Disney’s legendary stories and experiences to the UAE.

In May 2025, The Walt Disney Company revealed plans for its first new theme park in more than 15 years, choosing Abu Dhabi over several global contenders. Situated on Yas Island, this will be Disney’s seventh destination worldwide — and its very first in the Middle East.

Here’s everything we know about Abu Dhabi’s brand-new Disney experience.

What will Disneyland Abu Dhabi offer?

Located on Yas waterfront, the park will showcase classic Disney entertainment, immersive storytelling, themed hotels, distinctive dining, and unique shopping — all within a setting that blends futuristic innovation with local cultural influences.

Miral Chairman Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak notes: “What we are building with Disney in Abu Dhabi is a whole new world of imagination — an experience that will inspire generations across the region and beyond, creating magical moments and memories families will cherish forever.”

How will it look?

The design will combine Disney’s creative legacy with inspiration drawn from Emirati traditions and aesthetics. According to Disney CEO Robert A. Iger, the park will be “authentically Disney and distinctly Emirati” — a unique creation rather than a replica of other parks.

Will it have a castle?

Yes, but with a twist. Instead of the classic European-style castle, Disneyland Abu Dhabi will feature a gleaming, futuristic tower as its centerpiece. “It will rise spectacularly from this land,” says Iger, “merging contemporary architecture with advanced technology to deliver deeply immersive entertainment in bold, modern ways.”

When is it opening?

The park is expected to debut in the early 2030s. Once complete, it is set to become Disney’s most technologically advanced park to date — and the first Disney resort located on a coastal shoreline, just 20 minutes from downtown Abu Dhabi.

Who’s behind the project?

Disneyland Abu Dhabi is being developed, built, and operated by Miral, the Abu Dhabi-based company behind Warner Bros. World and Ferrari World. Creative direction and oversight will be provided by Disney Imagineering, the team behind all of Disney’s global parks, resorts, and cruise ships.

Why Abu Dhabi?

Abu Dhabi’s prime location was a major factor. With one-third of the world’s population within a four-hour flight, the city offers unmatched regional and global accessibility. Positioned between Europe, Asia, and Africa — and only a few hours from India — the new park is expected to become a powerful draw for international tourism.

As Saleh Mohamed Al Geziry, Abu Dhabi’s Director General of Tourism, explains: “This is not about building another theme park. It’s about positioning Abu Dhabi as a global destination where culture, entertainment, and luxury come together.”

How will it handle the summer heat?

Despite Abu Dhabi’s hot summers, the region has extensive expertise in climate-controlled attractions. Like Warner Bros. World and Ferrari World, Disneyland Abu Dhabi is expected to feature indoor rides, shaded walkways, air-conditioned areas, and cooled experiences to ensure comfort year-round.

What else does Abu Dhabi offer?

Beyond Disney, Abu Dhabi is already a thriving destination. Yas Island hosts Ferrari World (home to the world’s fastest roller coaster), Yas Waterworld, and SeaWorld Abu Dhabi.

For culture, Saadiyat Island features the Louvre Abu Dhabi — which welcomed 1.4 million visitors last year — and will soon be home to the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi and the Zayed National Museum.

“Abu Dhabi’s charm is in the diversity of its tourism,” Al Geziry adds. “For thrill-seekers, we have record-breaking coasters and desert adventures. For culture lovers, world-class museums and heritage sites. And for luxury travelers, exceptional dining, island resorts, and premium shopping.”

Why is the UAE such a strong tourism hub?

The UAE is consistently ranked as a safe, reliable destination and has some of the most traveler-friendly visa rules worldwide, allowing many nationalities visa-free or e-visa entry. Combined with its location — within short reach of billions of people — Abu Dhabi is perfectly positioned as a global tourism hotspot.

With its mix of cultural richness, modern infrastructure, strategic accessibility, and now the magic of Disney, Abu Dhabi is set to become one of the most exciting travel destinations of the next decade.
